As a digital agency dedicated to building future-ready solutions at the intersection of culture, technology, and education, we are proud to take part in the Erasmus+ project "Improving Tourism by Boosting Culture & Art".
Our team’s contribution focused on the development of a mobile application with Augmented Reality (AR) features, designed to transform how tourists and citizens experience cultural heritage. The project, which ran from 2021 to 2023, brought together organizations from multiple countries and sectors, united by a shared goal: to make cultural tourism more engaging, inclusive, and digitally enhanced.
The project's vision was clear from the beginning, to shift cultural tourism from passive observation to active, story-driven exploration. For our agency, this meant building a mobile-first experience that could blend theatrical storytelling, location-based interactivity, and cutting-edge AR.
Mobile App with Augmented Reality
We developed a cross-platform mobile application that uses AR to guide users through selected historical locations. The app features location-aware content, including narratives told by virtual characters, animations, and interactive elements designed to engage both tourists and locals in a gamified cultural discovery experience.
Integration with Printed Map/Game
To create a hybrid analog-digital experience, we connected the app with a printed guide that acts as both a collectible item and a physical interface for the journey. Users scan designated points on the map to unlock AR content, clues, and storytelling paths.
Content Hosting and Scalability
Our backend solution supports scalable content management, allowing local partners to upload and update stories, visuals, and video content relevant to their own cities. This flexibility ensures that the platform can grow beyond the life of the project.
This project was unique in its truly interdisciplinary approach. Working alongside theater professionals, cultural educators, and tourism specialists, we translated creative concepts into technical features. Each AR experience was crafted in collaboration with partners who provided historical research, character scripts, and performance elements — and we translated that into an intuitive and immersive mobile app.
Our mobile app has become a central component of the project’s broader strategy to attract younger audiences, engage NEET youth, and support local tourism ecosystems. During pilot events and live demonstrations, users reported:
Increased interest in local history and landmarks
A sense of connection through interactive storytelling
Appreciation for the blend of digital tools with cultural narratives
Beyond the official project period, the app and its supporting platform remain active and open for expansion. Our agency is committed to continuing development and providing technical support to local stakeholders who wish to extend or replicate this model in their own communities.
